MMP020: Around The World In 40 Minutes – An interview with Justin Urquhart Stewart

July 24, 2013

This week, I’m talking to Justin Urquhart Stewart. I’ll mention more about Justin in a moment, but for now, suffice to say that he is director of Seven Investment Management, who you’ll recognise because I mention them every week as follows:

This podcast is brought to you with the help of Seven Investment Management, a firm of investment managers based in London. They put their name to my show and to my site and videos because they believe in what I’m doing, and I’m very grateful for their support. You can see what they’re up to at 7im.co.uk

This week’s reviews

Lots of reviews this week. Three reviews and four ratings, to be exact, and all five star, which is just how we like them. Thanks to Ray Prince, Pjb89 and buttaznang who I have corresponded with on Twitter.

Ray said that “if you’re looking for someone to explain what can sometimes feel like a complex subject, Pete is your man” Thanks very much Ray. He also mentions the You Need A Budget software which I use and thoroughly recommend. You can find it at youneedabudget.com

Pjb89 says that I cover “Really informative and relevant topics which are presented in a personable manner.” Thanks PJB. Good luck on the quest to become an IFA – it’s a noble calling. Let me know if I can help; email me on pete@meaningfulmoney.tv if you have any questions

And Buttaznang: “Informative and enjoyable. Highly recommend this” – that’s fantastic; thanks so much

Thanks to everyone who has left me reviews so far, it is very satisfying to know that the podcast is helping so many people. If you haven’t left a rating or review yet, then please consider doing so. It helps me stay towards the top of the rankings, which in turns help more people find me and get decent financial information in everyday language. Go to meaningfulmoney.tv/iTunes to help me out…

Introduction

So back to Justin Urquhart Stewart. At my financial planning practice in Penzance, we have been working closely with 7IM for years. They look after a large proportion of our clients’ money. This isn’t a pitch for them, and I’m on sticky ground if I say anything that sounds like it. So suffice to say, they do a great job, and they owners of the business have become friends. They have been sponsoring me on the MeaningfulMoney site for over two years now. Justin is also arguably the most recognised financial commentator in the UK, famous for his red braces and ability to make things easy to understand – you can see why I get on well with him!

Once a year, we will put on a dinner in Cornwall for key clients and friends of Jacksons and Justin will deliver the after dinner speech. In it he will take a trip around the globe, explaining what is going on in the different parts of the world, how the economies interact, and how it all affects individual investors.

So, when I was in London last week doing some filming with 7IM, I asked Justin to talk us around the world as he always does, updated exclusively for listeners to the podcast and viewers of the videos. So I hope you enjoy this.

It’s worth mentioning that when talking to Justin, I tried to chop things into five sessions for the sake of the videos, and this might make things jar a little in the podcast, where the whole interview is here for you. I’ll put a little sting at the break points, so it’s nice and clear.

OK? Let’s crack on with this interview, which is a little over 40 minutes – enjoy!

Summary

There you go! I hope you found that enjoyable and interesting. If it tells me anything, it’s that you should let the experts get on with what they can do. I’m a long way from the city of London as I record this, so it’s great to know that Justin and others like him are there, on the ground, watching what is going on in the world with knowledgable eyes. Making decisions for the investment of your money is so important and clearly not to be taken lightly.
