People fail to engage with their money for lots of reasons: fear, worry, ignorance, boredom, even! It’s up to the financial services world (of which I am a part) to help people to break through these blocks and make money less boring! Today I’m chatting to Holly Mackay, founder of a new website called Boring Money, about her reasons for setting up the site, and what can be done to help more people engage.

This podcast is brought to you with the help of Seven Investment Management, a firm of investment managers based in London. They specialise in multi-asset investing, bringing institutional investing techniques to ordinary people like you and me. 7IM put their name to my show and to my site because they believe in what I’m doing, trying to get decent, easy-to-understand financial information out to the world. I’m very grateful to them for their support.
You can see what they’re up to at 7im.co.uk
In this session you will discover:
- The main reasons people don't engage with their personal finances
- What your first step should be if money scares you
- And what you should do if you find the whole subject boring!
- Holly's favourite sources of financial information
- The thing that annoys Holly the most when it comes to the personal finance industry
- Holly's one tip for those just getting going with managing their money
- Why getting angry is a good thing
Holly is a total legend, no? You can really tell that she and I are kindred spirits in trying to help ordinary folk take control of their futures. I loved the call to get angry and let that be a trigger to getting going with your own personal finances. And also the general advice just to get started and not let inertia rob you of a solid future.
Definitely check out boringmoney.co.uk. Holly is also on Twitter if you want to say hi and thanks to her for her time today.
