What next for MeaningfulMoney? Episode 251
Having breached the major milestone of 250 episodes – what's next for MeaningfulMoney? I thought I'd do a quick video explaining my plans for the near future and some changes I'm making…
Location: Pete's House
Time to take stock and look ahead
Having put up video 250, which I hope you all enjoyed, I thought it was a good time to take stock of where I've come and what the immediate future holds for MMtv.
I want to thank you again for sticking with me through 250 episodes and assure you that there is plenty more to come! I've made no secret of my desire to get to 1000 episodes, so just another 7.5 years to go – 2020 here we come!
After 250 episodes I feel like I'm hitting my stride, finally! So many of the first 250 shows were ‘What is' shows, for example, ‘What is an ISA?' or ‘What is the difference between a pension and an ISA?'. More recently I have been posting some ‘How to' shows, like number 245 -‘How to buy a car without debt', or number 235 – ‘How to budget'. These have been the best received shows of all time, in terms of the kinds of comments I have had, primarily via email. I want to continue in this vein, refining some of the ‘What is' shows as I go along, and in particular, continuing with the SIMPLE Money theme as I video blog my way to a book of the same name next year.
Life is getting increasingly busy in all walks of my life but I am committed to MeaningfulMoney, so that means organising my life so that I can continue to deliver the content I want to, and making some changes:
Videos
Obviously videos are my thing, and that will certainly continue. I plan to produce two videos per week on Monday and Wednesday as a rule. There are many more topics for me to deal with so I won't be hanging up my camera and tripod any time soon.
Live shows
The live shows, which go out at 4pm on most Fridays have been fun. I've enjoyed the ability to be topical and wrestling firstly with the LiveStream technology, and latterly with Google+ Hangouts on Air.
The very topicality of the shows means however that they take some preparing for during the day on Friday, which necessarily takes time away from my day-job as MD of Jacksons Wealth Management. For various reasons, life at Jacko's is getting busier by the day, so I can ill-afford to take time out of an admin day to prepare and present a live show.
I'll therefore be ceasing the live shows with immediate effect while I begin preparing for an exciting new development coming soon, which will be my first Podcast.
Podcast – MeaningfulMoney On Air
I listen to tons of podcasts in the car, while out running or while cutting the grass. It's a fantastic, convenient way of consuming information for me, and I want to try my hand at a medium which I feel is set to explode. There are no consistent personal finance podcasts in the UK presented by an adviser, so I feel there is a market here waiting to be tapped.
Podcasts are also a little longer-form than videos can realistically be. Because you can be doing something else while listening to a podcast, they can be longer, meaning I can more easily get into the meat of a subject, rather than constantly trying to keep under four minutes.
Podcasting will also give me the ability to take questions via voicemail, and to have co-hosts or guests dialling in via Skype. It's totally different to video and I can't wait to get going.
Books
I have two books in the pipeline. One is an eBook on how to get advice, which will be done by the end of the year, and will be a free download.
The second is the SIMPLE Money book I mentioned earlier, which I hope will be a step-by-step guide to getting your finances sorted enough to secure your ideal future. I'm both excited and daunted by the prospect, but with discipline and time I'm sure I can get it done.
Consultancy
Last week (1-3rd October 2012) I spoke at two sessions of the annual Institute of Financial Planning conference at the Celtic Manor. These were both really well received, I'm pleased to say.
I reckon there could be a market for me to do a few days a year consultancy with other advisory firms on their online marketing strategy. I'll be looking to set something up for the New Year to that effect. I'll have to strictly limit my time so that my focus isn't taken from Jacksons.
Final thanks
Thanks again to you for continuing to watch these videos. It's awesome to hear how people have felt more in control of their money after watching a show, or to hear how they have finally been able to make sense of some aspect of their finances that was puzzling them.
Thanks to my friends at Seven Investment Management for their ongoing support in sponsoring MeaningfulMoney. They help me to keep going by providing finance to buy equipment and services I need.
Let me know what you think about the above direction I'm heading in. And do let me know if there is anything I can help you with – just email me here.
