Episode 163 – LIVE No. 5 – Later Life: Equity Release and Long Term Care

November 25, 2011 1 Comment

The final LIVE show for Financial Planning Week 2011 was on Later Life issues. I go through a very quick roundup of the main considerations if you or someone yo love is considering Equity Release or may need to go into Long Term Care. Then I answer some questions live form the chatroom and Twitter.

As ever with the live broadcasts, the quality is way lower than you are used to here on MMtv, but I hope you can see through that to the content buried underneath!

Unfortunately, this video is no longer available on Livestream – sorry!

Love your podcasts Pete and Rog and thank you. Please can we anxious retirees have a special about financial planning for care. It is terrifying. The spiralling costs particularly if one or both partners needs long term care. Fighting a care system which is broken, unjust and offers us no respect, choice or dignity. Local Authorities deny us information, impartial help and the NHS reject applications for Continuing Care eg for diseases like Dementia. What about Care Annuities? The laws? Rights? My husband and I are not spending our hard earned savings in world cruises – we are keeping it safe so when one of us has a stroke or the like, we can try to stem the decline into poverty. A year in proper, quality care costs £60,000 a year – for each of us. We have no family around to help and want to take responsibility and help ourselves. Please guide us if you can! Social care is shocking and there is a real need for realistic financial planning so we can concentrate on our loved ones. Thank you.
