The last of our life stages deals with the financial implications of the loss of a partner. Very often, this event is the catalyst for beginning inheritance tax planning in earnest, but also, if the partner who has died had control of the finances, it can mark the beginning of a steep learning curve for the one left behind.
This podcast is brought to you with the help of Seven Investment Management, a firm of investment managers based in London. They specialise in multi-asset investing, bringing institutional investing techniques to ordinary people like you and me. 7IM put their name to my show and to my site because they believe in what I’m doing, trying to get decent, easy-to-understand financial information out to the world. I’m very grateful to them for their support.

Losing A Partner
Today we need to talk about the implications of the death of a partner. In the natural order of things, this should come late in life, but it’s a sad fact of life that this isn’t always the case. Losing your life partner is obviously a deeply traumatic event, but it can be worsened by financial worries, particularly if, until that point, you haven’t been the one with day-to-day control over the family finances.
So I want to look at the implications of this event, and as always, look at what you need to KNOW, followed by what you need to DO.
As a quick aside, if you want to help me spread the word about the MeaningfulMoney book when it arrives early next year, I can keep you informed if you click this link and add your name and email address to the form there – thanks so much!
